Job Overview:

The Associate Instrumentation Designer is an entry-level position, and their work is completed with close supervision and support. They work within clearly defined standard operating procedures and scientific methods and adhere to quality guidelines. The Associate Instrumentation Designer should have basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process and appropriate licenses/training certifications.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of detailed drawings and deliverables of high technical quality and consistent presentation, ensuring clarity and ease of construction

  • Gain experience in the following work areas:

  • Design

  • 2D drafting

  • 3D drafting and/or model creation

  • Develop basic technical skills to complete assigned work

  • Gain an understanding of the Contract Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and all inter­discipline requirements

  • Maintain а filing system for various drawings and documents as directed by the Senior Designer

  • Assist and/or prepare Discipline deliverables such as:

  • Detailed design drawings

  • As-built drawings

  • Filing of project drawings and documents

  • Keep Lead Designer and/or Senior Designer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns

  • Assist and/or prepare Instrument Design deliverables such as:

  • Layout drawings

  • Instrument hook-up / installation details

  • Wiring/loop diagrams

  • Panel and console drawings

  • Instrument drawing lists

  • Logic Diagrams

  • Shutdown hierarchy drawings

  • Schematics and block diagrams

  • Material schedules

  • Reports to:

  • Project: Lead Instrumentation Designer

  • Functional: Supervising Department Manager

  • Liaise With: Designers and Senior Designers/Engineers

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • High School graduate with a diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience

  • Entry-level to less than 3 years experience drafting and/or design

  • Detailed knowledge of 2D (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation) drafting systems and other drafting software

  • Flexible for business traveling/assignments

  • Proactive and willing to learn
