Job Overview :

Control and instrumentation design engineering. Work includes studies, specification writing, layout development, design calculations and supervising vendor packages.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake activities and tasks assigned by the Lead Engineer with minimal or no supervision and guidance. These will typically comprise of:

  • Preparation, checking and approval of philosophies, specifications, design drawings, studies, requisitions, technical evaluations and general instrumentation and control system documentation.

  • Review, checking and approval of third party supplier drawings and documentation for all types of instrumentation and control system equipment

  • Developing enquiry documentation including MTOs and man-hour estimates

  • Co-ordination meetings and liaison with third parties including clients and suppliers

  • Preparation, checking and approval of instrument and valve sizing calculations

  • Supervision, support and guidance of subordinate engineers and designers

  • Inspection, checking and witness testing of instrumentation and control system equipment at suppliers’ works as necessary

  • Engineering support during construction and commissioning phase activities

  • Other activities in addition to the above are:

  • Performing conceptual, FEED, Studies, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards

  • Assisting in preparation of estimates for bid proposals, including technical query reviews, execution statements and manhour estimates

  • Supporting less experienced Team Members

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Accredited engineering degree in Electrical or Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering

  • Preferably MEng degree and Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

  • Typically 8-15 years of detail control and instrumentation engineering experience.

  • Familiarity with current codes and standards.

  • Awareness of current and new technologies and the detail design engineering process.

  • Experience in petrochemical or related industries.

  • Experience of acting as the responsible engineer in charge of engineering major equipment or systems on projects.

  • Supervision of engineers and designers within the control and instrumentation discipline.

  • Liaison with project management and other engineering departments within a project team.
