McDermott Principal Piping Layout Designer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Job Overview:
The Principal Piping Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related team. They exchange ideas and information relating to Piping Design effectively. The Principal Piping Designer may work autonomously within established Piping Design procedures and practices. They act as a lead, coordinating the work of others. The Principal Piping Designer proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Piping Design discipline. The designer must be capable of using variety of 3D softwares such a S3D and E3D. The Designer must have offshore experience.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform Design and Engineering process facilities within a specified time while adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards, consider constructability, economics, and operation into account during Pre-FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phases
Develop 3D Models and ensure clash free model in coordination with all other disciplines requirements,
Approve drawing including plot plans as per project specifications, McDermott Procedures, Process Design practice
Complete assignments and facilitate the work activities of others
Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Designer) forecast and plan resource requirements
When acting as Lead Designer, in addition:
Lead the design team to complete the tasks within the planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, McDermott, and project-specific procedures
Act as project-based discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with Project Team, Client, vendor/supplier, and/or subcontractor counterparts
Ensure that the inter-discipline aspects of the design and deliverables are addressed
Support Lead Piping Engineer in measuring the progress and productivity
Coordinate all activities within own discipline and discipline interfaces with other disciplines
Ensures effective communications among other disciplines and effective management of change
Coordinate 3D Model Reviews and ensure Review comments are closed
Is fully familiar with the Project Scope of work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements
Develop Plant Design and 3D Modelling, Drawings in accordance with work hours and schedule
Add input into the Plant Layout Narrative in accordance with the agreed Scope of work
Identify issues as soon as they arise and follow up with any required corrective action
Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications in the Change Management System
When acting as Lead Designer, assist the Lead Piping Engineer in raising technical queries, preparing the piping estimate and job scope changes
Attend project Kickoff, Review meetings, Vendor meetings, model reviews
When acting as Lead or area lead, monitor and coordinate the design team (remotely if required)
When acting as Lead or area lead, lead the project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX)
Support and supervise less-experienced members within the design team
Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with a particular focus on Health and Safety Policies
Support the Department Manager with the Designer's appraisals
Exercise judgment, based on previous experience, practices, and precedents, to identify and solve problems that arise with little or no precedent
Exchange ideas and information effectively and is direct when dealing with others
Reports to:
Project: Lead Piping Engineer, Lead Piping Designer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: Lead Designers, Engineers, all other Engineering disciplines Leads assigned to the project, Project Engineer, IM
Group, Document Control, and Client representatives.
Lead Designers and Designers, Engineers, other Engineering and Design disciplines assigned to the project, Project Engineer,
IM Group, Document Control, and Client representatives
Supervises: Piping Design team assigned to a project or part of the project during the detailing and production phases
Essential Qualifications and Education:
10 years min with major contractor or consultant of which 10+ years of experience in oil and gas performing Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design
High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience
Detailed knowledge of 3D CAD system including E3D or SP3D
Minimum 1 or 2 projects working experience in E3D and/or S3D
Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Auto lisp
Familiar with the associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications
Capable of Leading projects
General understanding of how process equipment is maintained and operated
Programming, 3D Modeling, Menu, and/or Macro compilation skills would be an advantage
Flexible for business traveling/assignments
Knowledge of QA Systems and a good communicator
