Job Overview:
The Bosun reports to the Chief Mate and has responsibility to oversee the maintenance of the vessel in a clean and sanitary condition.
Supervises Able Body Seaman and Ordinary Seaman
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintenance, store handling, line handling, and work as directed by the Captain/Master and Chief Mate.
Responsible for the supervision, training, and evaluation of the Able Bodied and Ordinary Seamen.
Performs bridge watch standing, anchor watcher, and gangway watch as required.
Identifies maintenance needs, sets and revises priorities, and assigns maintenance activities.
Trains in practical operations of equipment, such as booms, tackle; efficient work practices and teamwork.
Performs any other duties assigned.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must possess USCG or equivalent and flag state Merchant mariner’s document with endorsement of Able Bodied Seamen.
Holds current STCW endorsements applicable to vessel upon which he/she is serving
