Job Overview :

The Operator Training Simulator (OTS) Trainer is to help client employees develop their competency (knowledge, skill, and capability) in the start-up, normal operations, normal shutdown, emergency shutdown, process upsets and load changes of an LNG plant through the use of an OTS covering a range of processes including: LNG Train, Inlet Condensate Recovery & MEG Regeneration, Storage & Loading, and Utilities & Power Generation.

Initially, a significant amount of preparatory work is required by the OTS Trainer to develop a range of training and assessment materials (simulation scenarios, training aids, assessments, etc.) in line with a project of this complexity and scope. The position is initially office based, in Milan (Italy) for around 9-12 months before transferring to Site until handover of a two train LNG facility at Ready for Start-up (RFSU). Participation in the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of the OTS is required and will include the review of forty OTS scenarios to be provided by the OTS Vendor.

Subsequently, the OTS Trainer will be required to undertake a rotational assignment to the project site in Mozambique to establish, deliver, and administer the range of training scenarios and materials developed earlier. The OTS trainer is also responsible for establishing and utilizing the OTS to complete assessments on client personnel, identify gasps, and provide gap closure plans to addressed the areas requiring improvement. All materials must be ‘current’; a mindset of ‘continuous improvement’ is required through establishing processes for client & participant feedback and evaluation.

Overall, the role requires a close collaborative approach, within the project team, to maintain positive relationships and deliver according to a defined project schedule.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise closely with the OTS Vendor

  • Manage the OTS equipment and local environment to ensure continuous availability on site

  • Support the development and execution of a training and assessment schedule

  • Conduct a range of Classroom Training, OTS Workshops, and On Job Training sessions as required

  • Utilize the Instructor software package to call up displays, load models, insert malfunctions and remote functions, and perform other tasks during a training session

  • Evaluate participant performance through formal and in-formal assessment; evaluate performance and provide feedback on areas of knowledge or skill requiring improvement

  • Update training and assessment materials as required

  • Support the administration processes through active participation in maintaining records and preparing reports

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 10+ years’ experience in the Operation / Operations Engineering Support of an LNG production facility.

  • 5+ years’ experience in Control Room Operations

  • 2+ years’ experience utilizing an OTS to support the training and assessment of others.

  • A good understanding of Process Control Systems

  • Development of training materials and assessment packages

  • Advanced proficiency in English (written & spoken)

  • Effective communication & organizational skills

  • A sincere enthusiasm for learning and inspiring others to learn.

  • Intermediate computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Schneider OTS, Dynsim software and DCS database would be an advantage.

  • Experienced in the commissioning and start-up activities of an LNG facility

  • Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing of Equipment, especially an OTS.

  • Multi-Lingual skills a plus especially spoken Portuguese.

  • Education / Professional Development:

  • Technical Degree or Vocational Qualification

  • Instructor qualification / certification

  • Train the Trainer qualification / certification

  • Workplace Assessor qualification / certification
