Job Overview:

General Description includes basic piping design and analysis of assigned deliverables in a McDermott project including specific complex deliverables such as piping specifications, piping engineering, and specialty items. Work includes, material control of piping bulk items, valves and piping specialty items. Maintains and promotes a focus on McDermott’s end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines. Ensures effective management of change. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible to become fully knowledgeable of all relevant work processes, systems and tools, to apply them on the projects, and to provide input for improvement when applicable

  • Preparation of MTO guideline for piping design

  • Gather, check, validate and process (bulk) MTO data from offices involved

  • Run checks and balances on MTO quantities generated

  • Feedback comments and resolve issues with process engineers and piping designers supplying the MTO’s

  • Combination of manual MTO files and electronic download from PID (If available)

  • Downloading final as designed MTO from 3D system

  • Consolidate bulk MTO and final MTO into one MTO for requisitioning

  • Set up requisitioning functionality in Material Management System

  • Uploading MTO files to material management system

  • Generate requisitions scope of supply from Material management system

  • Check validity of quantities to be purchased

  • Prepare and update quantity trending report to project controls and project management

  • Data input for subcontracting material management system

  • Prepare BOQ from subcontracting material management system

  • Generate and store historical material control data for future projects

  • Prepares input and runs reports for the computerized piping material management systems

  • Establish and maintain interfaces with other disciplines

  • Makes calculations on computer/by hand

  • Executes all relevant administration

  • Accepts all tasks of lower level and in consultation with the Section Leader certain tasks of a higher level

  • Shows flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:

  • The reassignment to other projects

  • The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays

  • The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also other projects) when possible /desirable

  • The managing/learning of current future working methods and software applications

  • Defines the discipline scope of work and the required resources, and develops input for the Piping Execution Plan

  • Is responsible for planning, scheduling, prioritizing, coordination, communication, work assignments, administration and the technical quality of the work executed

  • Manages, supervises and give direction to the Piping Engineering team, incl. MTO and Material Systems

  • Establishes and maintains interfaces with other disciplines

  • Acts as focal point for technical queries in case of MOPEX project execution
